to use the sign-out trick, you have to clear your xbox cache.
the cache is basically all your games updates/patches.
however, when you connect to xboxLive, you will be prompt to download the game updates/patches again.
can be annoying if you play a lot of games.
to clear xbox cache: System Settings > Memory > Y-button > Clear Cache
